Old Dominion – Meat and Candy
Snapback, Half Empty, Wrong Turn, Said Nobody, Crazy-Beautiful-Crazy, Nowhere Fast, Beer Can In A Track, Break Up With Him, Song For Another, Til It’s Over, We Got it Right

The Musical Ensemble Old Dominion is a five member band who is also songwriters.  The 11 track album was totally co-written by them.  “Half Empty” is trying to figure it all together as it goes... “Are you here to chill...Are you here to party...Are you just here trying to meet somebody”  It’s true that people have a lot of presumptions when they see people in this situation.  What do men and women think about women going to a bar by themselves?  For me, it signifies a certain air of confidence and independence whether she wants to be left alone, enjoying her night out by herself or wants to meet new friends.  No judgement as to why they are there by themselves whatsoever.

There are different types of love.  The mystical love you have for a the family,  real friends or pets and you love them no matter what, weaknesses, strengths and all.  Then there’s this love between a woman and a man.  The song “Break Up With Him” states about the love that has no staying power since the woman is with a person she thinks is special but is just not in love with him. “Break Up with Him” kind of like remind me of the song “Sad to Belong” by England Dan and John Ford Coley.   The song declaration is a mixture of figuring out what needs to be done.  Should she stay or should she break the cord?

Old Dominion put their music style through succession of sensuality and sensitivity.  The vocals carry on a relationship with the strings and drums.  It creates mixed emotions compressed into a few winning moments of “Getting It Right” and putting the music in motion.  The electronic effects which shift in and out are more like the wailing whale.  Vocals explore a range of feelings, excitement, sadness which goes well with the instrumental background.
