Sam Williams Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Answer:  I come from a long line of famous musicians, but music had to find me itself. I had words and feelings that were going to have to come out, and for me they come out in the form of song.

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Answer:  I write all my own music. I have my go-to people I get in a room and spill the beans with.

Lamitschka:  You just released current single Gemini. What do you feel is special about this song that makes people want to hear it?

Answer:  Gemini is special in the way it speaks truth about the parallels we face as humans. We have one extremely good day and then one awful day the next. We fail and we excel. I say “I’m keen to the shadows so keep me where it shines.” That means how easy it can be for me to fall down and it’s best for me to stay positive, even thought that might not be my default.

Lamitschka:  Who inspires you musically and how deep do your musical roots run?

Answer:  Biggest influences today: Billie Eilish, Drake, Hank Williams, Dolly Parton

Lamitschka:  What do you think about today's music scene versus its post and where do you see it going in the future?

Answer:  Genres are meshing and lines are blurring. It gives me freedom to bring new authenticity into country that hasn’t come out of a Nashville mouth yet. It’s also scary because we all know people hate change.

Lamitschka:  As an artist, you so many tasks such as recording, touring, interviews. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

Answer:  I love to hear about how a song connects with someone and think back to the place where I was when I wrote it, it reminds me I do this for a destined reason.

Lamitschka:  Are you doing anything to take music beyond its current borders or are you happy where it is?

Answer:  I want to push that envelope until its open.

Lamitschka:  What inspired you to become a songwriter?

Answer:  My family history and my life. Unlike people would think, I had to learn about my grandfather Hank Williams’ history online. I’ve studied his life and his songs. The writer has always been in me, but it took real life to force out my music. I’ve been through a lot just like every person in this world.

Lamitschka:  Who is your biggest critic, yourself or others?

Answer:  I am my biggest critic because I compare myself to other artists’ situation or support, but I must remember we’re all different and have different trajectories. Someone else’s highlight reel doesn’t compare to your real life film.

Lamitschka:  When you get time off, how do you like to relax?

Answer:  I love to fish and go on the lake at home, have beers with my friends. I have to check in on life with everyone I know that's not in this crazy music business.

Lamitschka:  What hopes and desires do you have?

Answer:  I want to be International and an inspiration for young people that aren’t like everyone else. I want to help kids, I want to be an activist for the arts and human rights. Musically, I want to uphold my family’s name globally while taking it to a different level sonically.

Lamitschka:  Is there any place you haven't played that you would like to?

Answer:  EUUURRRRROOOOOOPPPPPEEEEEE

Lamitschka:  What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?

Answer:  A hurt heart trying to make it better. I sing from my soul thats for sure.

Lamitschka:  What's the best compliment a fan has ever given you?

Answer:  A humongous songwriter told me the other day that I very well may be the person who changes country music. It made my stomach hurt a little but maybe she was right.

Lamitschka:  What's your favorite song that you wish you could have recorded?

Answer:  I am a huge fan of Ed Sheeran’s X album and Lewis Capaldi’s new album.
