Scott Southworth Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

1.      Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Answer:  Hi Christian, Thanks for the interview! I have enjoyed your interviews in Nashville for many years on YouTube!
My name is Scott Southworth and I am a songwriter that has lived here in Music City since 2004. I write all types of songs, but my favorite to write/sing/record/perform is Traditional Country, Honky Tonk Music! In 2016, I released a Traditional Country CD titled: “The Last Honky Tonk In Town“.
I was very surprised by the support and and excitement that European audiences had for my CD! In 2017 I toured in Germany, Switzerland, Ireland and the U.K. and had a wonderful time! I also spent time recording another CD full of All Original, Traditional Country Music that is releasing this May titled: “Hey Hillbilly Singer!“ I will be back in Europe this year touring in France, U.K. and Norway!
2.      Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Answer:  Yes! I was in a recording session in Nashville and while the band was listening to my rough guitar vocal, famous guitar player Brent Mason (who played on every song on the new CD) walked into the studio and yelled “Hey, Who’s That Hillbilly Singer?“ we all had a laugh, but that phrase kept bouncing around in my head so shortly after, I had written a new song with my friend Marc Alan Barnette. As soon as it was written, I knew it would be the title track for the new CD!

3.      Lamitschka:  Please tell us about the songs on your album (influences, etc).

Answer:  I hope that anyone who listens to this CD will easily hear the influences of Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and George Jones. I have so much respect and regard for the music they left behind and love writing new songs with a similar feel.“The Honky Tonk In Me“,“Nothing Left To Fight For Anymore“ and “Nobody Leaves This World Alive“ are some songs that reflect that appreciation.
I also enjoy fun songs with a bit of humor mixed in...you definitely hear that in “I Aint Leaving Town“, my duet with Bobby Marquez and the Texas Swing tune: “Why Can’t Every Day Be Friday Night“.
There are a few serious songs as well, especially happy with how “Cigar Store Indian“ turned out...I think that song will surprise some folks!
There is a little bit of everything in the 11 tracks, but it‘s all Country Music, I promise you!

4.      Lamitschka:  What's unique about you that will differentiate you from other artists?

Answer:  Well for starters, I never expected to be a recording artist! I came to Nashville to write songs...this journey has taken me by complete surprise but I am enjoying every bit of it! The other thing is usually when you hear a Traditional Country CD nowadays, it is a mixture of cover songs and originals, right? Well, my CD’s are 100% original music. Nothing against covers...I guess I just have a lot to say, ha!

5.      Lamitschka:  What moments in your career stand out in your memory as highlights and achievements which you are proud of?

Answer:  Anytime I am performing live and I see people in the audience singing along or someone requests one of my songs...that is the best achievment a songwriter could ask for! It’s also been crazy to see my music on the radio charts alongside so many of my heroes in so many places around the world!

6.      Lamitschka:  What hopes and desires do you have?

Answer:  Mine have all come true (Except to perform on the Grand Ole Opry stage someday!)...my hope and desire is that my son and daughter follow their passions and have a life full of love, friendship and amazing experiences.

7.      Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what will fans find there?

Answer:  www.scottsouthworth.com will connect you to my social network, share my upcoming show schedule and let you hear music, see videos and stay connected!

8.      Lamitschka:  What's the best compliment a fan has ever given you?

Answer:  Every fan that takes the time comes to a show, buy CD’s and spends time visiting is the best compliment to me!

9.      Lamitschka:  What message would you like to send your European fans?

Answer:  THANK YOU – DANKE – MERCI – TAKK SKUL DU HA! The opportunity to travel all around Europe, sing my Hillbilly Music, see so many beautiful sights, meet you all, share a drink, a laugh and hear your stories has truly been a dream come true! Looking forward to meeting more of you in the years to come. Thank YOU for supporting Traditional Country Music...I’ll keep writing them if you keep listening, ha!

10.  Lamitschka:  Fans are always hungry for good road stories. Do you have one you can share with us (come on don’t be shy)?

Answer:  Hmm, that’s a tough one! I am pretty boring on the road, typically after a show I crash on somebody’s couch and we spend the evening drinking whiskey, talking about Country Music and cracking jokes. I did have one suprise house concert in Switzerland for an apartment packed with people from India that had never heard Country Music before...but after a few hours (and several bottles of whiskey) they were singing along and I may have even heard a “ Yee Haw“ or two! To be fair, I may have busted out some Bruno Mars and Neal Diamond that night too...but I blame it on the Jack Daniels!

Christian - the next time I am in Germany, we will just have to make up our own NEW CRAZY ROAD STORY for the next interview...Yeah Man!!
