Amanda Cook Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?

Answer:  2017 was a huge year for me as an artist, starting the year off signing with Mountain Fever Records, and releasing a great CD through the label.  I also saw the transformation of our tour schedule on to the national level.  All of these things were dreams and goals of mine, and I saw several dreams come true in 2017!
Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how's it doing?

Answer:  Deep Water is my latest release on Mountain Fever Records.  It has done extremely well, staying in the top 15 of the charts for about 13 weeks now.  I have had a great response from fans and DJ’s, the popularity of the album is humbling.

Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Answer:  I titled my album after one of the tracks.  Deep Water was co-written by Carolyne VanLierop and myself.  Deep Water describes the changes I have gone through in my career and my desire to continue on and fulfill the goals I have set for myself.  The music business is hard, especially to newcomers, and Deep Water illustrates the fight I had with myself to keep trying to move forward.
Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Answer:  I do write and yet I love to use the writers that are available to me.  I have a great support system in that regard. I have some absolutely phenomenal writers available to me.

Lamitschka:  Who inspires you musically and how deep do your musical roots run?

Answer:  My dad is a banjo player and he has played bluegrass my entire life.  He introduced me to this music at an early age and as I got older and played with him in a group, I found my true calling in the music world.  I value the years I played with my Dad in our group, it gave me the foundation for what I do now. I learned so much from him and he inspires me still to always strive to be better and work hard for what I want to accomplish.

Lamitschka:  As an artist, you so many tasks such as recording, touring, interviews. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

Answer:  While I enjoy writing and recording, meeting and interviewing, my favorite part of my job is playing live at bluegrass festivals.  I love the energy of a bluegrass crowd and the rush from being on stage, especially when the crowd interacts with us and you can just feel the love and encouragement from the audience.  There is nothing better!

Lamitschka:  Who is your biggest critic, yourself or others?

Answer:  Oh, I am absolutely my biggest critic, self-confidence is something I struggle with everyday.  I think it comes from being so goal oriented and driven.  I always expect a LOT from myself.

Lamitschka:  When you get time off, how do you like to relax?

Answer:  I love to go camping. We totally disconnect electronically and spend time together as a family. The peace and quiet of the outdoors and making such wonderful memories with my children.
Lamitschka:  Is there any place you haven't played that you would like to?

Answer:  I haven’t played the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, TN yet, that is absolutely a bucket list venue!  Most artists aspire to play there and I’m certainly among them.

Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what will fans find there?

Answer:  I do have a website, it’s www.amandacookbluegrass.com.  I have our full tour schedule on there, as well as pictures from the road.  Fans can also find song samples and DJ’s and promoters can find our Press Kit and booking information.
