Country Music News International Interview with Rick Monroe

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

That’s always tough because I feel we have developed our own sound. I have a very wide range of musical influences and we try to mix them in while keep it close to our Country roots.

Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how's it doing?

"Gypsy Soul" and so far so good. The reviews seem to be favorable and the 1st single  "This Side Of You” is getting some solid airplay.

Lamitschka:  Please tell us about the songs on your album:

"This Side Of You" (Rick Monroe, Jason Duke, Ryan Griffin)
"Better" (Rick Monroe, Eric Torres, Mike Freeman)
"Ease On Down (Rick Monroe, Adam Craig, Michael Howard)
  "Gypsy Soul" (Rick Monroe)
"Moment Like This" (Rick Monroe, Jay Brunswick, Gary Ray)
"Rage On" (Rick Monroe, JD Shuff)

“This Side Of You”
The idea for this one came up because of a simple small talk conversation as we were getting ready to write. Ryan Griffin was telling us about his recent trip to Disney with his wife, who he says is pretty reserved but one night the wine won over and she let go a bit. To paraphrase him “I’d never seen that side of her before” and thats when I said, well I think we have a hook idea and with guys like Jason Duke and Ryan it doesn’t take long to get on to a solid melody. We knocked it out! It was definitely one of those songs that wanted to be written.

This song is pretty self explanatory, when you find that someone who is better than everything else. With was a fun one to write because it was basically a conversation that got turned into a song.

“Ease On Down”
As cliche as it sounds we wrote this song on a perfect day just hanging out on my porch. The day really dictated the over all vibe. Adam Craig and I had the song started and called Michael Howard in to help us put the icing on the cake. We had all but the “Hook” and just as we were about to call it a day my 14 year old dog took her usual 5 mins to lay down and Adam said “Ease On Down” there Bear. Bang, you never know where a hook will come from.

“Gypsy Soul”
This a relatively old song that we put back into the set as our big ender and it has been killing it ever since so it was a must record for this new EP. As well as it really represents me as a person and an artist. Always on the move and living life to the fullest.

“Moment Like This”
It’s a different kind of break up song. That moment when your relationship is at that pivotal moment where you need to decide to fight to fix it or let them walk away.

“Rage On”
We wrote this in the middle of my last big tour. I was describing that moment just before the show starts. The lights go down, there’s a lot of anticipation in the air, the venue is dark the crowd is restless and then the light go up and all hell breaks loose,in a good way and you Rage on through the night.

Lamitschka:  Your current single is being played by radio. What do you feel is special about this song that makes people want to hear it?

I think a lot of people can connect with “This Side Of You” because it’s something that most people have experienced. That time when you let down your hair and push those inhibitions aside.

Lamitschka:  Who inspires you musically and how deep do your musical roots run?

Life is my biggest inspiration & influencer. I really listen to all kinds of music so it would be hard to pin down one artist in particular.

Lamitschka:  As an artist, you so many tasks such as recording, touring, interviews. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

I love every aspect of this job from the finding the idea for a song through writing it to recording then getting to play it for everyone. That’s like the cherry on top.

Lamitschka:  When you get time off, how do you like to relax?

 What’s Time Off????

Lamitschka:  Many European fans travel to the United States to attend the several of the music festivals for the opportunity to see so many of their favorite artists, bands and celebrities. Will you be participating and how will the fans be able to find you?

Our schedule is changing a lot these days so the best thing is to check it often at:  www.rickmonroe.com  two of my favorite performances coming up are the CMA Fest in Nashville on June 10th & then Tailgates & Tallboys Peoria, IL  on Sept 29

Lamitschka:  Is there any place you haven't played that you would like to?
I’ve played ever state in the US except Oregon so that’s one place and as far as overseas I’d love to play Australia and of course come back to Germany.

Lamitschka:  When you're on tour, do you have time to play tourist?

We don’t usually have that much extra time but we do try and see whatever we can or at least try to hit famous local restaurants.

Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what will fans find there?

The website is www.rickmonroe.com and it’s more of a “splash page” that has all our social media and music links there.

Lamitschka:  Fans are always hungry for good road stories. Do you have one you can share with us (come on don’t be shy)?

Honestly there are so many crazy things that happen and they take a while to tell that I don’t think I could do them justice in a written answer, unless you’re ready for a short book.
