Kenny Chesney + P!NK Set The GRAMMYS on Fire
Two-Week Country No. 1, Top 20 & Rising Hot AC “Setting The World On Fire” Nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance
Somewhere In the Sun -- Kenny Chesney took a long time making Cosmic Hallelujah, because he wanted to reach a higher artistic threshold than his critically acclaimed, four-No.-1-producing The Big Revival. But no matter what changes or shifts happened, the 8-time Entertainer of the Year always believed in the power of “Setting The World On Fire,” his peak-of-the moment duet with P!NK.
Evidently, the voters with The Recording Academy agreed. When the nominations came in for the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards, “Setting The World On Fire” was nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
“You’re kidding me,” Chesney responded, when reached somewhere on the sea. “That’s fantastic. What a thing, what news to wake up to.”
“When I heard the song, I knew it was pretty special,” Chesney continued, speaking of the two-week Country No. 1 and the Top 20 Hot AC – and still rising – single. “But when we got P!NK on there, it was something else. She captures all the emotion, all the joy of being alive, being free and in the moment – and brought everything inside the song to life. I couldn’t be happier this morning, knowing the people who vote for the GRAMMYs heard in that song all the things that I do.”
Recorded in Los Angeles, the Josh Osborne/Ross Copperman/Matt Jenkins song – ironically inspired by one of the co-writer’s own first trip to the GRAMMYs – became the second single from Chesney’s unconventional Cosmic Hallelujah. As Chesney said upon releasing the track to radio, “I knew the moment I heard this song, it was exactly the moment of life and love exploding, and everything turning Technicolor. Finding songs that are in the moment are harder, in this kind of moment, it’s almost impossible. And the idea of bringing P!NK in adds to that sense of this song is happening as we sing it. It’s funny how people respond to stuff that feels real and right now.”
With “I love you” written in lipstick on a mirror, screaming out the car windows from euphoria or having the band on your t-shirt coming out of the radio, “Setting The World On Fire” is a pure expression of a peak moment – and the two people in it. That thrill helped give the recent BMI President's and CMA Pinnacle Award winner his 29th No. 1.
Co-produced with Buddy Cannon (Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard), “Setting The World On Fire” just keeps building. Reflecting the kindred spirits of the No Shoes Nation, who are voracious to live life, unwind as hard as they work and embrace all the world has to offer; “Setting The World On Fire” notches another honor with its 2017 GRAMMY nomination.
