About Whitey Shafer:
Whitey Shafer and childhood hero Lefty Frizzell were not only best friends, they became a co-writing duo to be reckoned with. Together, they penned the country standards “That’s the Way Love Goes,” “I Never Go Around Mirrors,” Moe Bandy’s “Bandy The Rodeo Clown,” among many others. Shafer went on to write some of the most momentous country songs of the last four decades, including “I Just Started Hatin’ Cheatin’ Songs Today” (Moe Bandy), “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind” (George Strait), “All My Ex’s Live in Texas” (George Strait) and “I Wonder Do You Think of Me” (Keith Whitley), and his tribute to his friend, “Lefty’s Gone” (George Strait). Of late, Shafer has suffered from a lung disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
