BLUEGRASS GREAT DEWEL BULLINGTON
HAS PASSED AWAY AT 78
Dewel Layne Bullington, age 78, of Portland, passed away Monday, January 9, 2012, at Kindred Hospital, Nashville. He was born in Macon County on September 23, 1933, to the late Alfred and Cora (Gilliam) Bullington. He worked as a salesman. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Cline) Bullington of Portland; son, Marty (Sandy) Bullington of Portland; daughter, Susan Prater of Oak Island, N.C.; sister, Selma McGuffey of Franklin, Ky.; grandson, Matt Prater of Portland; granddaughters, Kaylee and Marlayna Bullington, both of Portland.
He was a private in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Fairfield Masonic Lodge #553 AF&AM. He was a member of Portland VFW. He was a member of the Bluegrass Hall of Honor in Owensboro, Ky. He was a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians in Nashville, local 257. He played the fiddle for 50 years with The McCormick Brothers.
Visitation is 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2012, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, and after 8:30 a.m., Friday. Funeral service is 1 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2012, at Portland Funeral Chapel with Bro. Richard Jones and Pastor Apelu Po'e officiating. Interment is at Fairfield Cemetery.
